PAIGNON'S OLD MONASTERY MAKES PROGRESS TOWARDS COMMUNITY OWNERSHIP

3.55.40pm GMT Tue 2nd Dec 2008

The Old Monastery in Paignton has reached the second round of the process to be transferred to the Community. If it is successful the Old Monastery will be run by the local residents for community use.

Local Liberal Democrat Councillors Ian Doggett and Ruth Pentney have welcomed the news, and have urged local residents to join the Friends of the Old Monastery.

Councillor Ruth Pentney said, "The news that the Old Monastery has reached the second stage is welcome - but it is a case of 'so far so good' as there is still a lot of hard work still to do. It is vitally important that the Old Monastery is retained for the Community and not sold off to the highest bidder."

Councillor Ian Doggett said, "The Friends of the Old Monastery are meeting at 7pm on Friday at 7pm at the Sacred Heart Church Hall on Cecil Road in Paignton. I would urge any local residents who would like to help our campaign to save the Old Monastery to come and join us."
