COUNCILLOR RAISES CONCERNS OVER OYSTER COVE STEPS

9.50.40am GMT Mon 3rd Mar 2008

The Liberal Democrat Councillor for Goodrington with Roselands, Christine Carter, has written to the Conservative Elected Mayor Nick Bye following reports that the promised repairs to Oyster Cove steps have not been done.

Councillor Carter's letter says:

"In response to my written question at the Full Council meeting in September last year about the steps at Oyster Cove, you said that:

"The lower part of the wooden steps will be replaced in the winter maintenance period by Cultural Services which is valued around £12,000."

I have recently had a number of complaints from local residents that no work has yet been done. Given that Easter bank holiday is only 3 weeks away, this work needs to be done urgently.

Please can you let me know in writing if these complaints I have received are correct, and if they are, when the work will be done in line with your assurances at the Council meeting last September."

Councillor Carter said: "I was shocked to hear from local residents that no work has been done to the steps despite the assurances from the elected Mayor. I have written to him to find out what the exact situation is. Given that the Easter break is only 3 weeks away, there is very little time to get the steps repaired before the holidaymakers arrive."
