NEW LICENSING POLICY WELCOMED

10.15.00am GMT Thu 8th Nov 2007

Liberal Democrat Councillor Alan Faulkner, a former Chairman of Torbay Council's Licensing Committee has welcomed the new Licensing Policy that is coming before the meeting of the Cabinet on 13th November.

Councillor Alan Faulkner said:

"I welcome the new Licensing Policy, which the Council is required to have by 7th January 2008. In particular, the special policy of refusing new premises licenses in an area identified by the police as being subject to high levels of alcohol related crime is especially welcome.

"During the local elections in May, one of the main issues on the doorsteps was anti-social behaviour. The Liberal democrats believe that this issue should be high on the Council's agenda. This new licensing policy will help towards that.

The Cumulative Impact Zone has been a great success, and I am glad that it is being continued."
