ROCK WALK - CONSERVATIVES FAIL TO RESPOND TO FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST

4.11.52pm GMT Wed 7th Nov 2007

Councillor Steve Darling, the Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group on Torbay Council, has made a complaint to the Information Commissioner regarding a Freedom of Information request that was made to Cllr Carroll, the Leader of the Conservative Group, about Rock Walk.

Councillor Carroll was quoted in the local paper on 20th August as saying about Rock Walk that "Nothing has been done tangibly in the past 20 years." As it turns out, the Council spent £112,000 during the period 1993 - 1995 on stabilising Rock Walk under a Liberal Democrat administration.

On the 12th September Councillor Darling wrote to Councillor Carroll making a Freedom of Information request for the paperwork that he had based his comments on. To date he has had no response.

Councillor Darling said: "Under the Freedom of Information legislation, I should have had a response within 20 days, and that clearly has not happened. Either Cllr Carroll had received the wrong information, or he was trying to mislead the public, which was why I asked for the information. As he has not responded, I have written to the Information Commissioner to investigate the matter."
