COUNCILLOR HIGHLIGHTS NEED FOR CCTV

3.42.12pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 26th Oct 2007

The Liberal Democrat Councillor for the Tormohun ward in Torquay Cllr Jenny Faulkner will be putting the case for CCTV in the Belgrave Road area at the Full Council meeting on the 30th October.

Cllr Faulkner will be asking the Conservative Cabinet Member Cllr Jeanette Richards the following question:

"Following the armed robbery at 'The Local' on Belgrave Road last year, local traders, residents and shoppers raised a petition for CCTV for the area. The petition was presented to the Council at the end of 2006.

Could you advise me how things are progressing and whether CCTV will be up and running there in the near future?"

Councillor Faulkner said: "The armed robbery shows that there is a real need for CCTV in the Belgrave Road area of Torquay. Having those cameras there will not only help solve crime, but also the fear of crime."
