COUNCILLOR HITS OUT AT INACTION OVER FORE STREET THATCHED COTTAGE

4.18.09pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 25th Oct 2007

The Liberal Democrat Councillor for Watcombe, Steve Darling has hit out the Council's inaction over the burnt out thatched cottage in Fore Street.

Councillor Darling has written to the Council's Environment department, who are dragging their feet over doing up the cottage, despite it being a heritage building.

Councillor Darling said: "The thatched cottage on Fore Street is part of Torquay's heritage, and with winter approaching fast it seems that the Council are prepared to leave this building to the mercy of the elements. The Council has a good track record of protecting visible heritage buildings, such as Torre Abbey, but the Conservative Mayor should not forget the gems such as this project that are in residential areas."
