LIB DEMS TO NOMINATE COUNCILLOR JENNY FAULKNER FOR SCRUTINY LEAD POSITION

9.34.39am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 6th Aug 2007

At the Full Council meeting next Thursday 9th August, the Liberal Democrat Group will nominate Councillor Jenny Faulkner for the vacant position of Scrutiny lead for learning and Skills.

Councillor Jenny Faulkner has a wealth of experience in this field. She has previously been a Scrutiny Lead for Education, and is currently the Children's Champion for Participation.

The Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group Cllr Ian Doggett said:

"The Liberal Democrat Group wish to make a positive contribution on the Council. The Conservative Elected Mayor has previously said that he wants to work in partnership with us, so I look forward to him standing by what he has said and accepting our nomination. The current situation whereby all the Scrutiny Leads are of the same political party as the administration (the Conservatives) is not healthy for democracy and does not lead to effective scrutiny of the Mayor and his administration."
