LIB DEMS TO RAISE ISSUES AT FULL COUNCIL

2.49.32pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 12th Jul 2007

The Liberal Democrat Group on Torbay Council has tabled 7 questions to the Conservative administration for the Full Council Meeting on the 26th July.

The topics include:

  • The cost of providing lunch and refreshments to the Development Control Committee;

  • What the increase in costs has been to the work being done to the Members rooms by the refusal of the Conservative Group to vacate their rooms;

  • Whether the Deputy mayor owns any land that he has not listed on his members interests form;

  • Whether the Conservative administration plan to close the pitch and putt in Torquay;

  • Whether the Conservative administration will be bringing forward proposals to close the tourist attraction known as the Palmhouse on the site of Torre Abbey in Torquay;

  • Whether the Council needs to retains its Audit and Risk Sub-Committee in light of the lost data fiasco;

  • Whether the Mayor has had any meetings concerning the development at Clennon Valley.

Commenting on the questions, the Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group on Torbay Council Cllr Ian Doggett said:

"It is an important role in a democracy for local Councillors to be able to hold the Conservative administration to account for things that are going on in Torbay, and to raise important local issues. Many of the issues that we have tabled questions about are issues that have been raised with us by local people, or have been in the local media. The Liberal Democrats see it as their role to stand up for local people in Torbay."
