LIB DEM COUNCILLORS TO ATTEND YALBERTON MEETING

2.00.00pm GMT Thu 23rd Nov 2006

Liberal Democrat Councillors will be attending the public meeting on the 28th November concerning the Conservative Mayor's proposals for Yalberton.

The meeting has been arranged by the Yalberton Valley Action Group, to discuss proposals for urban expansion in the area.

The proposed siting of these new homes is on top of a heritage site - and despite this no consultation appears to have taken place with residents in the area or local councillors. Even Councillors on the Heritage Working Party were not aware of the proposals.

Councillor Gordon Jennings, the Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group on Torbay Council said: "Councillors were not involved in any way in the drawing up of these proposals. Residents should also be consulted before decisions get this far.

"Despite a recent Inspection criticising the Mayor for his lack of communication with Councillors, it appears that decisions are continuing to be taken behind closed doors - and that should not happen. As the Conservative administration on Torbay Council does not seem to want to share its proposals with elected Councillors, members of the Liberal Democrat Group will be joining the public meeting so that we too can find out what the Conservative Mayor's proposals are."
