Sanders Urges Improved Funding for Alzheimer's

2.15.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 12th Jun 2006

Torbay MP Adrian Sanders has given his backing to calls for an increase in Government funding to allow greater research into the diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer's disease.

Adrian commented:

"Alzheimer's disease is responsible for over half the 750,000 cases of dementia in the UK, yet whilst Alzheimer's costs nearly ten times as much to treat per year as cancer, it receives just a tenth of the Government funding. It is vital that further funding is allocated that will allow greater research into how we can help those suffering from this disease."

Adrian is backing the introduction of a Liberal Democrat Early Day Motion in the House of Commons calling on the Government to increase Alzheimer's spending
