CALL FOR INVESTIGATION INTO FLAG BAN

8.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 7th Jun 2006

The Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group on Torbay Council Councillor Gordon Jennings is to ask the Conservative Mayor Nick Bye to investigate why Council Staff were banned from flying the English flag.

Commenting on the story Cllr. Jennings said:

"There is nothing wrong with being patriotic - and I am sure that many residents will be more than happy to see Council vehicles sporting the national flag. Although there has now been a u-turn, and workers will be allowed to fly the flag on Council vehicles, I shall be asking the Mayor to look into why people were banned from doing so in the first place."
