Lib Dem Councillors fight to save Hele Co-op store from closure

4.38.19pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 5th Apr 2006

Lib Dem Councillors Steve Darling, Jenny Faulkner and Gordon Jennings have secured a meeting with Co-op's Chief Executive on the 24th April to voice their concerns over the supermarket chain's plan to close the Hele store.

Councillor Darling said

"There has been a steady decline in the number of shops in Hele village, many in our community are dependent on this store"

Councillor Jennings added

"We have heard a number of conflicting rumours regarding this proposed closure, we aimed to get to the bottom of this"

Councillor Jenny Faulkner said

"We would like to hear the opinions of the residents of Hele and Barton; how they feel the store could be more viable, what further services it could offer and so on. Residents can also sign our petition against the closure- by going online or by signing the petition that will be coming through their doors over the coming weeks"
