Mayoral Candidate, Nick Pannell, will receive key support from the directly elected Mayor for Watford, Dorothy Thornhill on Monday.

Dorothy Thornhill became Watford's directly elected Mayor in 2002 with a 72% share of the vote. Since her election the council's performance has improved as recognised by the audit Commission and the residents have benefited from lower than average council tax rises.

Dorothy is the first Liberal Democrat elected mayor and will be in town on Monday to help Nick with his campaign and to answer media enquiries about the post and what the people of Torbay can expect after the Mayoral election.

Nick Pannell said,

"This election is already attracting national attention. I have invited her to Oldway because it shows Torbay off at its best. I will also be interested if she has any ideas about regenerating some of the redundant buildings. The faded glory of Oldway symbolises the challenged for all of Torbay in the future.

"I am looking forward to meeting Dorothy and hearing how she has led Watford successfully. I am hoping that we will be able to discuss how an elected mayor can improve the quality of life for all. That is part of my vision of Torbay."

Local MP, Adrian Sanders added,

"This is a wonderful endorsement for Nick Pannell from a successful elected Liberal Democrat Mayor who works hard for her local area as Nick will for Torbay."
